Information to be Released on Application

The IMO publishes a large amount of information to the public on this web-site, and further information is available to registered Market Participants via the Wholesale Electricity Market System (WEMS). Should any person require information or documents relating to the Wholesale Electricity Market which is unavailable on this web-site or through the WEMS, they can apply to the IMO under Market Rule 10.4.1 for the provision of that information.

The IMO can only release information or documents subject to the person being a member of the class of persons able to view the information based on its confidentiality status. Market Rule 10.2.2 provides for 6 levels of confidentiality, into which all documents and information relating to the operation of the Market and the Market Rules are classified by the IMO:

  1. Public
  2. SWIS Restricted
  3. Rule Participant Market Restricted
  4. Rule Participant Dispatch Restricted
  5. System Management Confidential
  6. IMO Confidential

For example, a document classified as SWIS Restricted can only be released to a person who is in that class. For more information on the classes of confidentiality please see Market Rule 10.2.2.

The Market Rules provide that for any application made under Market Rule 10.4.1 the IMO may recover costs that are not otherwise included in the IMO's budget, of:

  • collation and transmission of information or documents, and
  • preparation of documents not otherwise required by the Market Rules, applicable law or regulation.

The IMO will provide a quote with respect to each application. Each quote will be provided on the basis of the time estimated for the completion of the application. The IMO's standard cost-recovery charge is $68 per hour.

Should the information requested not be easily obtainable, however the IMO may be required to approach external resources. The full costs of these services will be included in the quote and will be passed onto the applicant.
