Market Rules

The Wholesale Electricity Market Rules govern the operation of the Market in the South West interconnected system. The Rules cover the roles and functions of the IMO and other market governance bodies, and guide the operation of the market (including the trading and dispatch of energy, the reserve capacity mechanism and settlement).

The current Market Rules consist of the Wholesale Electricity Market Amending Rules which were gazetted on 19 September 2006, together with all gazetted amendments made by the Minister for Energy prior to 15 December 2006 and amendments made by the IMO since 15 December 2006.

This consolidated unofficial version of the Market Rules is provided as a clean copy for information and has no legal standing.

Market Rules Evolution Plan

The Market Rules Evolution Plan reflects the most important Market Rules evolution issues to be addressed over the coming three years. This plan incorporates a number of issues raised by various stakeholders since the commencement of the Market.

These issues have recently been prioritised by the Market Advisory Committee.  The IMO is currently developing a more detailed scoping document to outline the top issues and proposing a way forward. The IMO notes that the priorities and timelines may change during the three year period in the circumstances where new high priority issues are identified and resources have been diverted to address these issues.

The IMO will review and update the Market Rules Evolution Plan six monthly and present this to the MAC for its re-prioritisation annually. Updates will be published on this website following each review.
