Shaun Dennison
Director

Shaun Dennison was appointed Director of the IMO in April 2006. He has eighteen years experience in energy and water sector reform and market development, the design and application of economic regulation, and retail pricing in the competitive market.
Shaun spent the early part of his career in corporate advisory roles with ANZ McCaughan and KPMG Corporate Finance in Melbourne. At KPMG he was responsible for the management of the Victorian electricity supply industry reform and privatisation work undertaken by KPMG. This marked his introduction to the electricity industry.
Later he worked in a project management capacity within the Energy Projects Division of Victorian Treasury. Between 1996 and 1999 Shaun coordinated projects associated with the implementation of the gas industry reform and privatisation program.
In 1999, he co-founded Farrier Swier Consulting, an advisory service that consults on policy development, energy and water sector restructuring and reform, regulation, governance and accountability.
Shaun is also a specialist in Australian Aboriginal art with a focus on sales in the auction market. He worked for the international auction house Christies during 2004 to 2006, and is currently a specialist representative for Mossgreen Auction’s.
Shaun has a Bachelor of Commerce and is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
His current term as Director at the IMO expires on 8 June 2010.

John Kelly
Chair

John was a founding Director of the IMO and appointed Chairman in April 2006.
John’s career in the power industry is extensive with terms in SECWA and Western Power where he worked in a management capacity in electricity generation, distribution and on major construction projects.
In the mid 90’s John had a significant role in the separation of SECWA into Alinta Gas and Western Power before initiating Western Power’s new electricity marketing group and heading up the electricity distribution division as General Manager until his retirement in November 2000.
Between 2001 and 2002, John served as a member of the four person Electricity Reform Task Force (ERTF) which recommended, amongst other initiatives, a wholesale electricity market and a market governance structure that ultimately led to the establishment of the IMO.
John holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) degree from the University of Western Australia, a Graduate Diploma in Business Management and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
John's current term expires 10 May 2012.

David Huggins
Director
David Huggins was appointed to the IMO Board in November 2006 for an initial two year term. David has extensive experience in securities industry law, compliance and regulation.
He currently has his own legal practice and previously he has worked for the Australian Stock Exchange, the Australian Securities Commission and a major law firm.
His legal practice concentrates on dispute resolution, regulatory and compliance advice and commercial law in the context of the financial services industry.
David holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree, a Bachelor of Arts Degree, is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and is a Director of the Australasian Compliance Institute.
His current term as Director at the IMO expires on 26 July 2011.

Allan Dawson
Chief Executive Officer
Prior to joining the IMO, Allan played a leading role in the implementation and operation of the New Zealand and Singapore electricity markets.
As M-co’s General Manager Operations, Allan managed the establishment and operation of the New Zealand Electricity Market.
In 2001, Allan was appointed CEO of the Energy Market Company (Singapore’s electricity market operator) managing the establishment and operation of the National Electricity Market of Singapore.
A former rugby player, Allan is a big fan of the All Blacks and gets to as many rugby games as his schedule allows. Allan is also a keen cyclist and rides to work every day.

Murray Cribb
Manager Finance and Administration
Murray is the Chief Financial Officer for the IMO. He is responsible for:
• budget and financial reporting processes;
• the internal audit function; and
• managing relationships with central government agencies.
Murray has a wide range of experience in small to mid sized statutory authorities. Prior to commencing with the IMO in May 2007, Murray worked as the Finance Manager for the Legal Aid Commission for six years.
Murray enjoys trying to catch fish, travelling and spending time with his family.

Arthur Pettigrew
Manager Information Technology

Arthur is responsible for ensuring the availability, security and development of IT systems within the IMO. This includes the core systems of the Wholesale Electricity Market together with the IMO office systems.
After beginning his career as physics teacher in Glasgow, Arthur completed a Master’s degree in Physics in London and then worked as an IT consultant on various military systems. He later moved to Wellington, New Zealand, for eight years where he worked with the TAB on wagering systems. He has been in Perth for the last twenty years working within the IT Industry in a variety of roles but mainly with the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF). As DTF provided technical facilities to the IMO from its inception, Arthur was asked to join the organisation in 2006, a few months before the market commenced.
Outside work, family, house renovations, AFL and WAFL, Arthur enjoys fifteen minutes a day reading medieval history. He also dreams about playing golf again, brewing beer and wine and going on long overseas trips.

Troy Forward
Manager Market Development and System Capacity
Troy is part of the executive team within the IMO and manages the Market Development team and the System Capacity team.
Market Development is responsible for ensuring the market evolves appropriately and is consistent with the Wholesale Market Objectives. It is also responsible for making changes to the Market Rules and Procedures.
System Capacity manages the Reserve Capacity Mechanism - the capital investment mechanism that operates alongside the energy market.
After completing his PhD in high-precision GPS systems for stability monitoring, Troy worked for a number of years as a research scientist in undersea warfare operations research. He commenced work at the IMO in June 2005.
On the weekends he enjoys fishing and spending time with his young family.

Neil Hay
Manager Market Operations
Neil leads the Market Operations team which is responsible for the day to day operation of the Wholesale Electricity Market.
In his fifteen years in the electricity industry, Neil has worked for SECWA, Western Power and the IMO. During this time he has had the opportunity to see the reform of the Western Australian energy industry from the separation of SECWA through to the current market structure.
Neil has a Bachelor of Science with a double major in mathematics and computing.
When not at work, Neil plays golf and tennis, paddles on the river and struggles to play a guitar.

Malcolm Burnaby
Assistant Manager Finance
Malcolm manages the IMO’s financial accounting and Prudential requirements.
He holds qualifications in Accounting and Finance, Purchasing and Contract Administration and Project Management.
Previously Malcolm has worked in the health sector managing IT projects and at the Office of Energy. He joined the IMO just after the Wholesale Electricity Market commenced in 2006.
Malcolm enjoys playing various sports and travelling.

Ian Chew
Senior Database and Network Administrator
Ian joined the IMO in 2006 in the role of Database and Network Administrator, supporting the infrastructure and systems for the organisation. He is responsible for the smooth running of Database Administration (Oracle & SQL Server), Systems Administration (Windows & Linux), Application Support (WEMS, Reporting Services) and Project Management.
He holds a Bachelor of Computer Science and a Masters of Accounting and is working towards a Masters of Business Administration.
Ian has worked in various IT roles at Graylands Hospital, Curtin University, Descisys (a company specialising in business intelligence and data warehousing solutions), the Department of Treasury and Finance and JDV Limited.
Ian loves food and enjoys reading comics, playing online games as well as a variety of racquet sports and travelling.

Jacinda Papps
Senior Analyst Market Development
Jacinda is responsible for the day to day management of the Market Development team. She leads and organises the Market Rule and Procedure development and change processes.
Jacinda has a Bachelor of Business Studies in Economics from Massey University in New Zealand.
After graduating in 1999, Jacinda worked for Statistics New Zealand as a Labour Market Analyst responsible for the Household Labour Force Survey. Following this she spent six years working on electricity market reform in New Zealand. In 2008 she moved to Western Australia and took up her current role at the IMO.
In her spare time, Jacinda is a keen triathlete. After triathlon, her other great passion is photography.

Robbie Flood
Senior Operator
Robbie is responsible for the daily operation of the Short Term Energy Market, the registration process, metering and the provision of general assistance to Market Participants.
Robbie also leads the IMO market training programs that run throughout the year.
Previously he has worked at Western Power and for eight years as an area manager in the fast food industry. Robbie has a Diploma in Information Technology.
Robbie enjoys alternative music. He tries to attend most of the summer festivals as well as seeing bands at local venues.

Assistant Accountant
As part of the Finance team, Tony is responsible for the IMO's day to day accounting functions including payments and receivables, processing journals, bank reconciliations and month end processing.
Tony has been an accountant for the past ten years working at NEC Australia, and prior to that at CSR Timber Products for ten years. He has a Bachelor of Business in Accounting.
Outside work, Tony enjoys outdoor activities including swimming and walking and has a keen interest in architecture.

Barbara Sole
Manager Legal and Compliance
Barbara is responsible for carrying out the IMO’s compliance functions. Her role is to carry out the IMO’s monitoring of Rule Participants to ensure they are complying with the Market Rules and Market Procedures.
She also arranges for legal advice should any issues arise pertaining to the IMO.
Barbara has spent ten years working in energy markets. First with M-co in New Zealand, the company that administered the wholesale electricity market there, then with M-co in Sydney, which administered the Gas Market Company and REMCo.
Barbara has a Bachelor of Laws and says she is addicted to books.

Tim De Boer
Application and Support Developer
Tim’s role is to design, build, test and deliver IT programs to ensure the IMO’s software systems are continually meeting requirements. Currently, in conjunction with the IT team, Tim is working towards streamlining all programs under one central umbrella program for improved efficiency across the organisation.
Prior to the IMO, Tim held similar roles in various industries including mining, transit, banking, insurance, science, ecommerce and government.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Computing.
Tim loves movies and books. He enjoys spending time with friends and family and exercises to keep fit but would rather spend time enjoying wine and chorizo than being at the gym.

Fiona Edmonds
Analyst Market Development
As part of the Market Development team, Fiona’s role involves administering the Market Rules, procedure development and change processes.
Fiona has a Master of Applied Economics from Massey University in New Zealand.
After graduating in 2007, Fiona worked for Statistics New Zealand as an analyst responsible for the Quarterly Employment Survey. In 2008 she moved to Western Australia and took up her current role at the IMO.
In her spare time, Fiona enjoys rowing and is an avid reader.

Matthew Pember
Change Manager
Matt’s role is to manage change within the IMO.
Matt began his working life at The Australian Taxation Office in 1990 where he soon moved to an IT role. He then completed a Diploma in Business Information Technology and began working at Western Power in the billing department. When the IMO began recruiting in 2006, Matt took up a position as an Operator. Eventually his knowledge of WEMs and the IMO IT systems led to his current position of Change Manager.
In his spare time, Matt is involved in coaching his sons various sporting teams and enjoys leisurely relaxed weekends.

Bruce Pullen
Database and Application Support
Bruce works in the Information Technology team supporting the application systems and the underlying technical infrastructure.
He has worked exclusively in IT since graduating from university, having held positions for public service and mining and financial institutions around Australia and overseas. He particularly enjoys the dynamics of small to medium organisations.
Bruce practises Tae Kwon Do, strives to brew the perfect beer and coaches a junior cricket team.

Gavin White
Senior Settlement Analyst
Gavin’s responsibilities at the IMO include managing settlements and IMO’s Prudentials (financial securities) together with a range of other market monitoring functions. He is also responsible for developing Market Rule change proposals and specifying and testing changes to settlement applications in order to implement successful rule changes.
Prior to joining the IMO, Gavin has had several roles including consulting to a natural resource management company and working as a project manager for the Office of Energy’s Electricity Reform process.
Gavin has a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Western Australia.
He enjoys catching up with friends, listening to music and spending too much time in his garage fixing Italian motorcycles.

William Street
Analyst System Capacity
The primary focus of William’s role is the administration and operation of the Reserve Capacity Mechanism and the provision of analytical support to other teams within the IMO.
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Computer and Mathematical Sciences from the University of Western Australia, William worked at the Office of Energy and was involved in the final stages of the implementation of the Wholesale Electricity Market. He then joined the IMO as part of the Market Operations team. William moved to the System Capacity team in 2008.
William enjoys gym and basketball, is a self-confessed technophile and loves cars, electronics and food!

Arian Lowe
Operator
Arian performs the role of duty market operator which involves monitoring the applications that run the WA electricity market. She checks for inconsistencies in prices and maintains the IMO’s registration system.
Arian has been involved in the WA energy industry since November 2006 when she worked at the Ecomomic Regulation Authority. She initially worked in the Market Administration team before moving to Market Operations.
Arian has a Bachelor of Economics and Honours in Government from the University of Sydney and enjoys teaching and playing the violin.

Executive Officer
Melanie began at the IMO in 2007 and her role is extremely varied and involves a high level of organisation and planning. Her main responsibilities include providing executive support to the CEO, the management team and the Board of Directors; administration management, negotiating and liaising with public and private sector contacts on behalf of the CEO and assisting with human resources.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies in 2004, Melanie began work at Osborne Park Hospital where she worked in various administrative roles.
Melanie enjoys indoor beach volleyball, going to the gym, walking, jogging, kayaking and reading.

Tonia Tardivel-Jones
Front Office Administrator and Procedure Analyst
Tonia is the primary contact for all external stakeholders and is responsible for the smooth operation of the IMO office. She also provides support to the management team and has lead the project to create procedures to ensure the IMO consistently meets high administrative standards.
Originally from the UK, Tonia has worked across a variety of industries from fitness to law. In late 2008 her interest in procedure and documentation writing and her high level of customer care brought her to the IMO.
She enjoys many outdoor pursuits and is interested in all aspects of health and fitness.

As part of the Market Operations team, Bobby manages and verifies the settlement runs, assists with queries and deals with any disagreements that arise.
